THE LONG TAN HIBISCUS
Colin (Meggsie) Dennis (A Vietnam Tunnel Rat) and his wife Brenda, have produced a bloom that they consider suitable as a living memorial to the men of D Company 6th Battalion, RAR. They hope that through this bloom, members of the public will be reminded of the significance of the 18th August 1966 and the Battle of Long Tan
The parentage of this bloom is particularly significant in that in 1966 anyway, most of the fellows in the company were young and fancy free and enjoyed a cool drink and the company of one or more pretty ladies. The parentage in this bloom is as follows:
Grand Hyatt (Hyatt Hotel chain – good place for meeting quality ladies) crossed with Amanda Jane (the lovely name of a pretty female) resulting in LONG TAN.
The bush on which LONG TAN blooms is upright and strong which signifies young men of that era and occupation.
Colin and Brenda intend propogating additional plants however they will not be available until late 2008. Enquires to Colin at ceebeedee@skymesh.net.au
"Our aim is to perpetuate the camaraderie that was generated amongst us when we served."
