I would like to contact whoever is familiar with the events of 24 Nov 1969 when NZ members of V Coy were patrolling with an ARVN PF unit south east of Dat Do. I was the pilot of the Direct Support Possum helicopter who was sent to investigate a radio call for help. I discovered several wounded and returned for a medic from FSB Discovery. I wrote my report at the time but there are details that don't add up. I would like to find the medic I took in that day ideally and ask for his recollection.
Can you assist please?
What I want to know in short form is how many Kiwis were there with V Coy that day and did any survive? If so, who? I am happy to share my account if anyone is interested.

Joined army 61 went to svn and detached to 6RAR in Aug 66. Was sig corp and did all bn ops including Bribie. Went to SASR in 72 as missed the time with grunts. Knew a guy called Red Webb for years (SAS) and we only discovered we were both at bribie in dec 2010. It was his 2nd day in country. I showed him a photo of the destroyed APC and 'lo and behold', he is in the photo.
Why dont I keep in touch!! Hard tto explain.
One doesnt really belong but professionalism is supporting your mates in the aussie army regardless of corp and myself and my men did that. George Chinn, RSm grabbed me off the Choppers at bribie and he and I helped with wounded, dead, resupply whatever. I am now 71 years of age and have an 18 yo son in infantry corp. (this is the hard bit! Do I tell you, I never found out what caused kids, or! Couldnt help myself and loved sex. I have told him-be proud of your corp and remember all the help you get is by all corps. You all take care of yourselves, my brother, Eric Tonkin was at fire support base Corral with 1RAR.

I want to thank all of the members of 6RAR, in particular the members of B and D company who worked in Macquarie St,St Lucia cleaning up the mess left by the floods. The quality, conduct, courtliness and helpful behavior not to mention their happy work ethic was fantastic. They are a credit to your unit. I was proud to be alongside them yesterday whilst they battled to clean up an overwhelming mass of mud. My association with 6RAR started in Vietnam in 1969. I was there when the original cross was placed at Long Tan. Through my role as Vice President of the AVVRG, I was involved in the custodian agreement for the Long Tan Cross. I am proud that I now can say I served with 6RAR in the 2011 Floods. On behalf of the residents of 82 Macquarie St [My mother in laws residence]our heartfelt thanks.

I received one of your wristbands from David C. Anderson of Sydney. I myself have never been to Afghanistan, though my unit will be there next year. I will be retired by then. I have been to Iraq 3 times (2004, 2006 and 2008). I wear the 6RAR wristband proudly, and remember we're all one international Band of Brothers.

Guard of Honour for Pte Tomas Dale at Centennial Park Adelaide. Pte Dale 6 RAR, who was killed in Afghanistan a bit over a week ago, was farwelled by a contingent of 6 RAR soldiers from Ennogera and a contingent of about 30 veterans as a guard of honour. Of the veterans there were approximately five ex 6 RAR personnel, Fred Fairhead, Rod Graham, Martin Hamilton-Smith, a Timor veteran and myself. While the service itself was a family affair with some of his 6 RAR mates, the scene was very moving and sombre especially the muffled drums and the gun carriage. A 6 RAR man at rest. Lest we forget.

Former Engineer, Bill Willcox, who served in Vietnam in 1969, has asked me to enquire if any ex 3 Platoon A Coy 6RAR members who were involved in the mine incident on the day that Armstrong landed on the moon would be interested in doing a tour of the actual site of the incident. Bill has just returned from taking part in the same tour and if there are enough people interested would like to arrange another trip in the next twelve to eighteen months. Only people who were actually involved in the mine incident will be permitted into the area. Bill also found the precise spot where his tent was situated in Nui Dat, with the help of a good guide. If anyone is interested, please feel free to contact Bill on Mob 0408610848 or H 02 63361565. Regards, Jeff Single.

They joined for many reasons, to march, to sail, to fly; they went where they were posted but nobody joins to die. Their leaders talk on TV; what else could we have done? But those leaders lost no daughters and none has lost a son. So heres to all our soldiers wherever they may be... and heres to all their families, I raise my glass to thee. Thank you.

Just logging on to say Congratulations to the Committee for the fantastic job done regarding the recent Reunion in Brisbane. It was my first visit to the RAR NMW - its a credit to those who have been involved in getting it established, and those who continue to make it like it is - a very special place. I served in the Bn from 6-6-65 to 27-5-69 - not many would remember me even though I have been a member of the Association for about 15 years. Looking forward to the next reunion - we may even get to Perth in a couple of years time.

Sig det Sgt. Tmw is the anniversary of Bribie.
seconded by RSM George Chinn on LZ to help load, assist wounded and any other help needed.
Was eventually awarded ICB as a RA Sig.
Very lucky in army as I spent 14 of my 20 years in spt of the grunts. Joined SASR in 72,and stayed till 85.
My hardest journey! Leaving 6RAR 3 weeks before you all as our unit came home. Never saw any of you again. (as attached one does not really belong). Had years of guilt as I was home and my bn was still there. God! I enjoyed every minute of my time with you all. Loved being in the bush instead of 'siiting on my ring' in the ATF drinking 'Brandy Crustas'
This is my first contact ever, (not counting Svn) and I wish all my old friends well. 5 mar this year I turn 70. On thurs 18 of Feb I fly to Kapooka with my 15 yo daughter and watch my son, 18, march out to go to the Inf Trg Centre. The tradition goes on.
What a life! It has been hard but fun. Bye all. Neil Tonkin. Also answer to "Hey You" and "Stop Thief."

Hi everyone, just popped onto the website to see what the Bn has been up to in the 3 years I have been overseas. I am extremely please to see that Blue dog has finally been recognised as a mascot and been promoted. When the BN first went to Timor Leste he was my house mate for the 6 months they were away and he was truly a special dog with a strong and fierce protective streak towards me. Look after him always.

Excellent website, well done. I am hoping you can help. My cousin served in 6RAR in Vietnam between 1966 and 1967 as a regular soldier. He was wih the battalion at the time of the battle of Long Tan and served with Support Company. I know Support Company didnt take any direct part in the battle but I have been unable to find any written account of this company at the time of the battle. My cousin was Pte James Gordon. Are you able to assist in anyway with regard to Support Company during the time of the battle?
I thank you in anticipation of your much appreciated reply should you feel inclined to do so.

I've just come across your web site and it's good to read contributions to it.
I'm trying to contact vets from the Coffs Harbout NSW area who served with an infantry company of 6RAR/NZ during its 1969-1970 tour of duty. I served with Sig Pl, Support Co at that time.
I'm attempting to write a book (fiction)for adolescent readers about a teenager's father who served with an infantry company. To give the book authenticity (even though it is fiction), I need to run a section of the book past such veterans.
I'd be very grateful for assistance in this regard.
